The Image of an Invisible God

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

God took on the form of a man. God manifested Himself in the person of Jesus Christ who dwelt among us in the flesh.

Whenever I think about Jesus being God, I think about how the teachings of men tend to over-complicate things. There is no private interpretation. Understanding is in the scriptures for all who wish to have it.

When we are dealing in the flesh, we won't understand how and why God took on flesh to become a man. The carnal mind is enmity against God.

Parables were used so that those who wanted understanding would have it. Those who do not want understanding will be confounded.

God manifested Himself in several times in different ways throughout the entire bible (this is important to understand when you read the old testament and then see other scriptures that say no one has ever seen God).

It's important to read the scriptures yourself with the help of the Holy Spirit.

I am going to share some scriptures below for yours and my personal study.

"𝐎𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞, 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝. 𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 "𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬" 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐨𝐝, 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭. 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡." -𝐀𝐨𝐂 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤

Scriptures

John 4:24

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Colossians 1:15-17

Jesus is the image of the invisible God.

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Colossians 1 is a great chapter. Link to the whole thing: Col 1

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:18

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father's side, has made Him known.

(People in the bible saw an image of God, not the Father. He is a spirit.)

John 10:30 Jesus said: I and my Father are one.

John 8:58

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Philippians 2:5-8 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Colossians 2:9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,

Hebrews 1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

Romans 11 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

John 14:9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and you do not know Me yet, Philip, nor recognize clearly who I am? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’

John 1:14

And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1 Thess 5:21 but test everything; hold fast what is good.

In Jesus, we see man as he was meant to be. In Jesus, we see God as He truly is.

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in…

God is sovereign, omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. All powerful! This blog post is something I put together simply put. But I do believe some of the above Scriptures speak for themselves.

God came in the form of a man, Jesus Christ, for many reasons. To give us an example on how to live (follow Christ, imitate Christ) and to pay our sin debt.

I do not speak like a Bible scholar....I am saying it plain and simple. I do not often use the word 'trinity' because it confuses so many! Jesus Christ is also the Word. The Word became flesh. The Word dwelled among us. The Word, Holy Spirit, God, Jesus, all the forms He took throughout the scriptures...sounds like more than…

Beautifully explained by Amber Elisabeth Sanders: This has been an area of my life where I have been passionate about. The truth of who God is, is so majestic to start with. Beyond stating this, I will say I have been battled regarding what I am about to type out; my entire life! I was always told by my parents that God was separate from Jesus, and to be addressed accordingly or not at all. Prayers were artificial, forced, and I was encouraged not to have a relationship with the Lord that was "easy going". It was said to need to be prompted by Him. Basically if you don't have a need that truly matters, you are to be SILENT! It was…
