Warning! Incoming and random and scattered thoughts!
I see young people (really everyone, I guess?) trying so hard to be unique, but end up looking like everyone else and getting buried in the algorithms of this social media driven world.
Programmed to self destruct - The power of music, movies, and media.
If you want people to hate God, morality, discipline, be reckless, addicted to substances and unhealthy behaviors, to not trust people, be obsessed with themselves and create a world of foolish and selfish animals - Put it in the music. Put it in the movies. Make it pretty. Make it everywhere and impossible to escape.
So many people seeking "being an individual" are in fact carbon copies making it glaringly obvious they are victims of programming. (Excerpts from 'Secret War on Millennials Part 1: New Age Counter Culture/Demise of the Family Unit' from #DayzofNoah)
Break free and become who God made you to be. I'm not sharing this AT you. I am not immune to this mind control, either. I'm fighting, too. We all have areas of our lives that were molded by media. We are consuming it constantly. Test all things and hold fast to what is good. Our culture has been telling us to be unique. Be you. "Do you." This message comes straight from the occult and diametrically opposes the qualities God would have you to have.
In a world of almost 8 billion people...all of us trying to be heard and understood by all of our "friends" and followers. I get it. Heck, I'm writing this blog right now trying to be "heard".
But does everyone really NEED to understand you? Does everyone NEED to hear your opinion on everything? Share away. But will you be ok if the people (or even your loved ones) do not get you? We have soooooo much media thrown at us from every direction just about 24/7 that is telling us HOW to be unique, how to "be you", how to "DO YOU". It tells us what to be mad about, what to be happy about, what to be scared of, what to wear, what's ugly, what's pretty.... Do this. Do that. Post this. Don't post that. Yadda yadda yadda! For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God?? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10
Trying to be unique or "be me" apart from Christ had me a lost hot mess.
These thoughts led me to the scripture on "being in the world...but not of it". The freedom I have in Christ relieves me of so many pressures in THIS world that is passing away and points my focus on the fact that I am a citizen of another Kingdom.
I know not everyone will get that....but the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing; but to us who are being saved it is the power of God!
You can still enjoy this world God created for us! But the values of this world are not our values. Make every attempt (Newsflash: You will fail....daily) to live, think, and act like an Ambassador for Christ's Kingdom. Love God and love others.
Luke 9:23 tells us this: "And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." That doesn't sound too much like "do you" "do as thou wilt " "be you" "be unique", etc.
Mark 7 tells us the condition of the heart of a man...which explains the condition of the world today.
21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery,22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness.23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
I bet all of us can say we have one or two of those things in our hearts regularly. So when the world tells me to "follow my heart", I'm gonna have to say no thank you; I'll follow Christ.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9
Great verses on being in the world, but not of the world
1 John 5:19
We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
Colossians 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
John 12:46
I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.
John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
2 Peter 1:4
By which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
John 15:19
If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
Don't get buried in the algorithm of this social media driven world. Dopamine driven feedback loops on social media...a world driven by likes and dislikes.... A world where people can flip on you because of your opinion on any particular thing.... A world where we are all so disposable to each other....just click the red x or unfollow.....
A world where people build their perceptions of you based on some things you post online or a brief interaction.... I could go on! I'm guilty. But when you know better, you try to do better. I watch people's passions and emotions change like the wind.
What mattered one year ago, two years ago, five years ago...where'd it go? Did that thing go away because the media stopped talking about it? Will it come back when the media tells you who to be mad or happy about?
I am not mentioning any particular event or topic intentionally because when it comes to the media polarizing us, it's across the board. All of it. They feed off…
